Amritsar BRTS planned

Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) has planned a bus rapid transit system for Amritsar covering a 30km route with a fleet of 55 state-of-the-art AC buses. The Union Ministry of Urban Development has approved the purchase of 50 buses for the project and work has already begun for construction of elevated roads. The first phase of the project will be completed by March 2015.

There will be state-of-the-art features like doors of waiting rooms with sensors that will open only when the bus arrives, so as to keep the passengers safe.

The BRTS will feature waiting rooms with doors which open only on bus arrival thus ensuring passenger safety. Overhead bridges and dedicated lanes will allow the smooth flow of pedestrians and buses. As a step to better utilize the waiting time at traffic lights the bus stops will be located at intersections. There will be two dedicated lanes on either side of the median for movement of buses in opposite directions as well as overhead bridges for smooth movement of pedestrians from both sides of the roads straight to the bus stops.
