BMW and INRIX introduce first in-car intermodal navigation system

German carmaker BMW has joined hands with INRIX to introduce the industry?s first in-car intermodal navigation system in the former?s i3 and i8 electric vehicles. The navigation system will integrate local public transport connections into journey planning. It monitors real-time traffic conditions and alerts drivers to faster alternative modes of transportation when major delays occur along local routes. When operated in alternative mode, it offers turn-by-turn navigation to the nearest public transport station in time for the next departure. INRIX EV and Intermodal Navigation Services are individually verified and updated whenever new charging locations becoem available, public transportation schedules change or new capabilities are added. INRIX?s energy management services also enable drivers to determine the distance as well as the route from their current location to nearby charging stations.
