INTELLIGENT STREET LIGHTING

Serving as  multifunctional stations

controllable light management softwareOsram Lighting Solutions are aimed at meeting the increasing need for networked, intelligent lighting in buildings, towns and cities, and offer users genuine added value in addition to pure lighting.

Osram outdoor luminaires enable both single luminaires and luminaire groups to be controlled and monitored. This allows light on roads or in complete city districts for example to be dimmed according to time of the day or season of the year in accordance with specific requirements. Error messages can be collected and classified automatically to enable efficient operating management.

Future lighting solutions will go a step further to offer additional services for cities and their citizens. Networked between themselves and individually controllable light management software, road luminaires will enable lighting according to needs and in the form of multifunctional stations. Networking will lead to not only hardware but also the data, especially the networking, availability and analyzability of this data, becoming the decisive business model.

With sensor technology, one will be able to charge the batteries of e-bikes and monitor parking spaces or the microclimate of individual urban zones.

light boxSLC RF, the new generation of Osram Street Light Control, wirelessly interlinks luminaires in a network based on the new, open IPv6 internet standard via radio. An intelligent radio component in the outdoor luminaire and a radio frequency antenna make the luminaires ‘smart city-ready’. In a first step, the Streetlight 10, Streetlight 20 and DL 50 LED outdoor luminaires will be equipped with the new wireless system. Information is wirelessly transmitted from light head to light head and communicated with a router via internet to the central control point. The system’s high flexibility enables it to intelligently search for another path if a unit fails, thus remaining fully functional. This radio network has the ability to become the backbone for completely new smart city services. For example, for wide-area information network structures in towns and cities or new sensor-supported services, like registering free parking spaces and providing local weather conditions information. For this purpose, further components such as parking space sensors or environmental sensors can be integrated into the luminaires.

Osram Lighting Solutions with its wide spectrum of outdoor luminaires create  intelligent, networked infrastructures, and offer holistic smart city solutions together with a network of strong partners. The company will be developing several LED and light management systems in the coming years for this purpose, and also continuing to expand its network outside of the lighting industry. This includes representatives from the data management and network technology sectors for example as well as research and educational facilities.

With the new radio-controlled Street Light Control system, outdoor luminaires such as the Streetlight 20 LED are made smart city-ready.
