LINKING JAIGARH PORT TO KONKAN RAILWAY

To enable transportation of bulk commodities from Jaigarh Port to the Digni station of Konkan Railway, a 33.7km railway corridor is being planned. JSW Jaigarh Port Ltd has signed a concession agreement with Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd for developing the corridor. The special purpose vehicle executing the project is Jaigarh Digni Rail Ltd. The project will come up through the difficult terrain of the Sahyadris. The concession period is 30 years.

The rail link, to be executed in 30 months, will have eight tunnels spanning a total 18 km, and eight bridges. The corridor is expected to handle around 12 million tonnes of cargo a year.

In line with its plans of augmenting passenger amenities at railway stations along the Konkan railway route, KRCL will be initially escalators and travelators at some of its stations. To begin with, escalators are being provided at Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Margao and Udupi stations. Ratnagiri station will also have a travelator. Konkan Railway is also installing a solar power plant of 350 KW at Ratnagiri.
