Scania to set up shop in Bangalore

Eyeing the lucrative commercial vehicles market in the country, Swedish truck maker Scania is all set to open a completely knocked down unit (CKD) assembly unit for truck and bus chassis in Bangalore. This would be the first phase of the company’s planned operations in India. The truck major would eventually have service workshops for trucks and buses, and bus body building facilities for city buses and coaches at the factory. Long term plans involve supplying engines to OEM customers and production of around 1000 inter-city buses and coaches, and 2000 heavy haulage trucks a year within the next five years. Scania will invest around 150 crore in the facility which is expected to employ about 800 people over a period of five years.
