Role of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in implementation of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) at highway toll plazas

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) have decided that NPCI should do the clearing and settlement of electronic toll collections subject to RBI proposal. The proposal envisages that NPCI will build and operate the scheme National ETC Network (NETC Network) for transaction processing, clearing and settlement, dispute management, creating a mapper for capturing vehicle details, creating acquiring and issuing standards and standards for RFID tags (radio frequency identification devices) issuance.
