Siemens to build ‘eHighway’ in
Germany to charge electric trucks
iemens has been tasked with building a 10km
Sstretch of overhead contact lines on one of
Germany’s autobahns to allow trucks to temporarily
drive on electric power only while also charging their
batteries.
The ‘eHighway’ project involves overhead power
lines similar to the ones used by electric trams and
trains, which allows hybrid trucks to drive up to
90km/h while creating zero emission. Similar systems
have already been installed in Sweden and California.
Siemens claims that if 30 per cent of Germany’s truck
traffic is electrified and supplied with renewables, the
eHighway could save nearly six million tonnes of CO2
emissions per annum.
ABB India to provide solar
inverters to 750 railway stations
BB India will provide solar inverters to 750
Arailway stations in North India in a bid to
reduce dependence on traditional sources of
energy. ABB had recently reached a milestone
of installing 5 GW of solar inverters, supplying
about 40 percent of India’s solar power at
approximately 13 GW.
The inverters will be part of the solar
installations being set up by Azure Power. ABB
set up its solar inverter manufacturing facility in
India in 2012 and contributes to approximately
40 percent of the country’s solar installations.
Azure Power has superior rooftop solar power
solutions for infrastructure, commercial and
industrial customers in cities across India to lower
their energy costs and meet their greenhouse
gas (GHG) emission reduction targets.
